About the Artist

Artist Lisa in Studio Closeup (touchup 2).jpg

At a very early age, Lisa Matthews demonstrated artistic talent and natural ability. Her budding talent was encouraged by her mother, who is also an artist and interior designer.

In addition to drawing and painting, the young Ms. Matthews focused her energies on another form of art, the art of classical ballet. With much of her childhood spent in the ballet studio, she sketched the dancers between classes and rehearsals. Her career led to the accomplishment of principal dancer with the Louisville Ballet. She also studied at Julliard on scholarship at the School of American Ballet, the official school of the New York City Ballet. While living in New York, she visited many art museums, further developing her study of the Old Masters and Impressionists. Thus inspired, she began to focus in earnest on cultivating her own technique.

Ms. Matthews is now an accomplished portrait artist of more than 20 years, able to create exceptional likenesses that capture the spirit and uniqueness of each individual. She feels very blessed with her artistic gift and finds it rewarding to create works of art as unique as the individuals themselves.

Lisa Matthews' portraits are treasured by many and can be found in private and corporate collections throughout the United States. Lisa is a member of the Portrait Society of America.

Lisa has painted over eight portraits for my family. They range from groups of adults to young children. Each not only captures look but personality as well. Her portraits make you smile to look at them, for Lisa captures the beauty and innocence in children. I highly recommend her work.
